Samuel Allen Rice

Samuel Allen Rice (January 27, 1828–July 6, 1864) was born in Cattaraugus, New York. He lived in Mahaska County, Iowa where he practiced law, was county attorney, and state attorney general (1856–1861). In the American Civil War, he was a colonel in the 33rd regiment of Iowa. He opened the Yazoo River for navigation, commanded the second brigade, 13th Division, XIII Corps at Helena, Arkansas. In August 1863, he was appointed Brigadier General of Volunteers. On April 30, 1864 at Jenkins' Ferry, Arkansas, he was mortally wounded. He died at Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, July 6, 1864 and was interred at Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Iowa.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 publisher =Political Graveyard )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】 publisher =Kerry Webb Canberra Australia )
He was the brother of Union general Elliott Warren Rice.
